Where Prophecy Stones Come From
Prophecy Stones are rare desert finds fromĀ EgyptĀ ā specifically theĀ White Desert near Farafra, in EgyptāsĀ Western Desert.
They began as marcasite and/or pyrite (iron sulfide). Over geologic time, they were replaced by iron oxides ā mainly goethite (often called limonite), sometimes with hematite ā while keeping their original knobby, starburst, or wand-like shapes. That makes themĀ pseudomorphs: same outer form, new mineral inside.
āProphecy Stoneā is a modern trade name for this Egyptian material. In crystal lore, the name comes from a finder who reportedly had a prophetic vision while meditating with one. Early collectors sometimes mistook them for meteorites ā theyāre not. Theyāre terrestrial treasures of Egyptās Western Desert.
